Double-pulse tester

Double-pulse test simulation and post-processing that produces switching-loss maps for power devices.

Updated

Context

The double-pulse test is the standard way to characterize the switching losses of a power semiconductor, and those losses set the thermal design of the converter around it.

Constraint

Running the test for one operating point answers almost nothing. A design decision needs a map across DC-link voltage and load current, which means many runs and a consistent way to reduce each one.

Contribution

I built a double-pulse project that pairs LTspice and SIMetrix schematics with Python sweep automation and MATLAB post-processing to extract switching-loss maps for MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC, and GaN devices.

Approach

Python drives LTspice over a parametric sweep of DC voltage and load current; the post-processing scripts reduce the resulting waveforms to loss figures and plot them as maps rather than as individual traces.

Outcome

Device comparison becomes a surface to read instead of a set of single measurements to argue about.

Evidence

The public repository holds the schematics, device models, the sweep driver, the plotting helpers, the MATLAB scripts, and sample data.
