iomyfiles
An import library for the awkward file formats that laboratory instruments actually produce.
Updated
Context
Measurement data arrives as instrument exports: Excel sheets with several header rows, MATLAB files from an older workflow, and delimited text with whatever convention the equipment vendor chose.
Constraint
The analysis is rarely the hard part. The hard part is that every import is a one-off parser, written again for the next instrument and thrown away with the script that needed it.
Contribution
I wrote iomyfiles, a utility library that reads MATLAB .mat files into NumPy arrays and pandas frames, and parses Excel and delimited exports whose headers do not follow a standard layout.
Approach
The library handles the format quirks common in test-equipment output — custom delimiters, multi-row headers, non-standard sheet structure — so that the calling analysis starts from a DataFrame instead of from a parsing problem.
Outcome
Laboratory data reaches analysis in one step, and the parsing work is written once rather than per project.
Evidence
The public repository holds the package and its unit tests.
