Power-electronics FFT utilities

Spectral analysis helpers for converter waveforms, in Python and MATLAB.

Updated

Context

Almost every power-electronics argument ends in the frequency domain: harmonic content, distortion, and where the switching energy actually sits.

Constraint

A general-purpose FFT is not the same as a converter-ready one. Windowing, scaling, and harmonic extraction have to match the convention the engineering discussion assumes, or two correct transforms produce two different numbers.

Contribution

I wrote a small library of FFT and spectral-analysis functions tailored to power-electronics waveforms, including harmonic extraction and total-harmonic-distortion calculation, for both simulated and measured traces.

Approach

The package keeps one convention and ships MATLAB equivalents alongside the Python implementations, so a result computed in one environment can be reproduced in the other rather than rederived.

Outcome

Harmonic figures stop depending on who ran the transform and in which tool.

Evidence

The public repository holds the Python package, the MATLAB equivalents, and unit tests.
