Standard Expert

A query service over technical standards, built to answer homologation questions against the text.

Updated

Context

Homologation work is repetitive retrieval. The same questions about limits, test conditions, and applicability get asked of the same documents by different engineers over the life of a product.

Constraint

The answers live in long, cross-referenced documents, and the cost of finding them again falls on whoever is asking this time. Institutional knowledge here is mostly a memory of where to look.

Contribution

I built Standard Expert, which preprocesses standards documents into a cache and serves queries against them through an interface that an engineer or another tool can call.

Approach

Indexing is a one-time preprocessing step per document, kept separate from serving, so the query path stays fast and the ingestion cost is paid once per standard rather than once per question.

Outcome

A recurring homologation question becomes a query against the indexed text instead of a repeated search through the source document.

Evidence

The work is held in a private repository containing the preprocessing step, the index, and the query service.
