GE Critical Power
UPS power electronics, regulatory qualification, laboratory validation, and new-product introduction.
2013–2016
Contributions
- Developed and validated single-phase and three-phase UPS power-conversion systems.
- Led new-product introduction across international voltage, frequency, CE, and UL constraints.
- Explored new technical routes when architecture or qualification work reached a bottleneck.
Context
An uninterruptible power supply is sold into markets that do not share a grid. Nominal voltage, frequency, and the certification regime differ, and the product has to satisfy all of them from one design.
Constraint
Qualification is where this becomes concrete. A design that works on the bench can still fail against a regional limit, and the discovery usually happens late, when the architecture is expensive to change.
Contribution
I developed and validated single-phase and three-phase uninterruptible power-conversion systems, and led new-product introduction across international voltage and frequency ranges and both European and North American certification requirements.
Approach
The qualification constraints were treated as design inputs rather than as a downstream gate. When architecture or certification work reached a genuine bottleneck, the response was to open a different technical route rather than to keep pushing the blocked one.
Outcome
Products reached qualification in several markets from a shared design, with the regional differences handled deliberately instead of discovered late.
